Since 2005, the Institute has become a national leader in professional development related to the integration of personalized, culturally responsive/sustaining practices. We identify best practices, develop instructional resources, and activate educators and communities as change agents. Working with over ninety schools and districts and building relationships with thousands of educators across diverse urban, suburban, charter and district environments, the Institute team has a sophisticated understanding of the complexities involved in supporting district level change initiatives.

The Highlander Institute is seeking an Educational Strategies Specialist who truly believes that all children can learn, and that all children have the right to a high quality, culturally responsive, personalized learning environment. We are looking for instructional coaches with the skills to support classrooms, schools, districts, higher ed, and education organizations as they navigate the change necessary to create equitable, antiracist educational opportunities for all learners.
Educational Strategies Specialists coach teachers and school/district leaders to deliver student-centered instruction through successful integration of curriculum, assessment, student collaboration, authentic projects, and high quality small group instruction, in a variety of delivery models (in person, hybrid and distance/virtual). ESS convenes a design team to look at data, develop a vision, identify aligned priority practices from our Priority Practices Tool, and develop a measurement plan. The ESS then coaches selected teachers on these practices and supports scale across the school and district.
Highly qualified candidates will demonstrate an understanding of:
- Blended, personalized and culturally responsive/sustaining pedagogy
- Providing high quality professional development, classroom modeling, and individual consulting sessions for teachers, school administrators, and district personnel
- Relationship-building and communication
- Adult learning theory
- Documentation, data collection and analysis
Non-Technical Skills and Behavior:
- Performs duties professionally, thoroughly, in a timely manner, and with a respectful, friendly demeanor in both external and internal relationships.
- Handles routine challenges with a diverse consulting team with calm and good humor.
- Strong ability to build rapport and connect with educators at any level of the system.
- Ability to travel
Preferred Education, Additional Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with Highlander Institute, knowledge of Highlander Institute philosophy and practice
- Teaching experience
- Instructional coaching experience
- Nonprofit experience

Salary and benefits:
Starting salary for Educational Strategies Specialists range from $50,000-$85,000 based on experience. The organization offers flexible work hours, a suite of benefits, and an unlimited PTO policy.
